Overview

If you are in Leeds city centre and need a Changing Places toilet, Trinity is a decent choice if lifts and walking/wheeling distance are not an issue and you don't need a shower -- and if you don't weigh more than a hundred kilos! So all in all, quite a few caveats, but better to have it in the situations that apply.

Transport & Parking

If you are coming into Leeds by train, Trinity is basically just across the street from the station (and a little to the right). There are several bus stops on Boar Lane (4, 4F, 7, 7A, 7S, 16, 12A, 64, 200, 201, 202, 203, 229, 254, 255, 875, PR1) and a multi-storey car park off New Station Street. Don't expect to find any on-street or free parking, though.

Being a large shopping centre, you need to cover quite long distances to get around and while there is some seating, especially on the upper floor as you head away from the atrium towards customer services, I think there should be more throughout the rest of the centre. If you are in a wheelchair and especially a motorised one, you will have no problems getting around, as the floors are even and smooth. If you don't have your own mobility scooter, you can borrow one from the customer service lounge, but that's already quite the walk! Taking the lift up, it took me a while to find the toilets, since they are on the other side of the open space from the lift and with the sign being sideways, I couldn't see it until I had gone down the wrong way and turned around again. If you are taking the escalator up, though, you will be right at the corridor leading down to the bathrooms. There are two lifts connecting the lower, ground and first floor that are both a decent size, but they don't have any Braille or tactile signage. There are buttons on both sides, a handrail and a mirror on the back wall of the lifts. The quiet room and more disabled toilets are up another floor from the Trinity Kitchen and accessible by a separate lift in that area. Not all entrances are step-free, but there are level entrances with automatic doors on multiple sides.

The door to the Changing Places toilet opens to the outside with a RADAR key. There is a vertical metal bar door handle on the left. It is not automatic. It looks by lifting up a lever handle on the inside. There is a horizontal handrail on the back of the door as well as two coat hooks at different heights. After a little hallway, the bathroom opens up to the left and you will find to foot pedal bins and a toilet on the left wall. There are fixed vertical and moveable horizontal handrails to either side of the toilet. The flush is a lever. The toilet paper holder is to the right of the toilet. There is space for a right-side transfer and possibly a left-side transfer if you move one of the bins, although the toilet paper holder might still be in the way. The red cord is to the left of the toilet. There are two large wall-mounted sink at different height and vertical handrails on either side and between them. The taps have short levers. There is a wall-mounted soap dispenser to the left of the middle hand rail. There are mirrors above both sinks, but they are both mounted high up. There is a larger mirror that reaches lower on the wall opposite the sinks (to the right when you enter). On the right next to the mirror you can also find a colostomy shelf. To the left of the sinks, there is only a hand dryer, no paper towels. There is also a drain in the floor to the left of the sinks, but there is no shower. There are partitions on wheels that were stored to the right of the sinks when I visited. There is a wall-mounted fold-down adult-size changing bench. There are instructions framed on the wall as to how to adjust the height. The writing is not very large. I was disappointed to find that the maximum weight of the bench is only 100 kg. There is also a ceiling hoist track and even tinier instructions framed on the wall. A paper sheet dispenser and another red cord are on the right side of the changing bench.
