Overview

A stylish modern shopping centre with all shops on one step-free level and a Changing Places toilet upstairs. There is also a rooftop restaurant accessible via lifts.

Transport & Parking

4.5

The shopping centre is close to Leeds Bus Station and bus stops on Vicar Lane (Victoria 7, 7A, 7S56, 64, 116, 200, 201, 202, 203, 229, 254, 255) and Eastgate (56). There is some on-street parking in George Street and an attached multi-storey car park with EV charging.

Access

4

There are step-free entrances with automatic sliding doors from Harewood Street, East Gate and George Street. The George Street entrance (coming from Kirkgate Market) has an incline up to it. There is another entrance from George Street in the middle of the centre that is a non-automatic door opening to the outside. This door also takes you to the stairwell and lift lobby. The lifts are not particularly large. There is no Braille, but the numbers on the buttons are raised. There are handrails around the sides and back and a mirror on the back wall. There is some low cushioned seating without backrests in the corner by the entrance to the toilets.

Toilets

4

The toilets are on the first floor of the shopping centre, which is accessible via lift or stairs. The accessible bathroom is straight ahead from the lift and then behind the door to the right before the corridor splits into male and female toilets. There is a Changing Places toilet around the corner to the right coming from the lift. The accessible bathroom is quite small. The door opens to the outside, but it opens into a small walkway, so it can be quite tricky to navigate and meanwhile you are blocking the way. It also means that if you open the door by going back pulling it, you are then on the wrong side to get into the bathroom and have to close the door again to get around it. No key is needed to access the bathroom. There is no door opener. The handle on the outside is a vertical metal handle. There is a handrail on the back of the door and it locks with an extended twist lever. There is a colostomy shelf right next to the door on the right when you come in and to the left of the toilet. The toilet is on the back wall. There is a fixed vertical and a horizontal handrail to the right of the toilet that can be lifted and moved out of the way and a fixed horizontal handrail on the wall to the right of the toilet. The flush is a motion sensor on the wall behind the toilet. The toilet paper holder is to the left of the toilet. There is space for a left-side transfer. The red cord is to the left of the toilet and the sink. There are vertical handrails on either side of the sink. The sink is a small wall-mounted sink and the tap has a motion sensor. There is a wall-mounted soap dispenser on the left above the sink. There is no mirror. To the right of the sink, there is only a hand dryer, no paper towels. There is a wall-mounted baby change on the left wall as you come in that folds down. There is a large foot-pedal bin to the right of the toilet and to the right of the baby change and a sanitary bin with a motion sensor closer to the toilet. Victoria Gate has a Changing Places bathroom that is accessible via lift or stairs on the first floor. It needs to be unlocked with a RADAR key. There is a phone number to call for access if you do not have one. The door opens to the outside (it sticks a little) and has a vertical metal handle. There is a horizontal metal rail on the inside of the door as well as two coat hooks on the wall to the left of the door as you come in. The door locks by pulling a lever handle upwards. The toilet is opposite the door. There are no partitions. There is space for both a right and left-side transfer. There are vertical grab rails on the wall and moveable horizontal ones to either side of the toilet. The flush is a motion sensor on the wall behind the toilet. The toilet paper is mounted to the wall on the left of the toilet and might be quite a reach. There is also a red cord to the left of the toilet. There is a sanitary bin at the wall to the right of the toilet. The sink is a wall mounted sink with a motion-sensor tap and is not height-adjustable. There is a vertical handrail on the wall to the left of the sink. A soap dispenser is mounted on the wall above to the left of the sink, a hand dryer on the right and a mirror above. There is a longer mirror between the door and the sink. There is no shower or colostomy shelf. The changing bench is by the wall to the right when you enter. There are padded barriers on either side that can be lifted up and fastened to prevent rolling off. The roll with the paper sheet was just loose on the bench, as there was no dispenser. The changing bench has wheels and is height adjustable. The bench height can be adjusted with a crank on the base. There is a ceiling-track hoist and instructions for it are on a laminated sign on the wall, which unfortunately has very small writing. There is a large foot pedal bin in the corner to the right of the changing bench. There is classical music and nature sounds playing in the Changing Places bathroom.
