Panic Attacks arn't Funny
I have a panic disorder where panic attacks can get triggered by being in an open space without quick access to a closed in space like a car or toilet or a small building.
I wast really too fused to the set up of this place as in the mueseum part there were alot of automatic doors and when you went through the automatic door it wouldn't open to let you go back to the part of the mueseum you were previously in. This system wasn't practical for me as I didn't feel comfortable going into new parts of the mueseum if there was no guaranteed safe for me in the new section that i would have had available if I had access to the previous section I was. I think they need to allow those automatic doors to open from both ends. So the whole mueseum part can be accessible at all times.
To enter the mueseum you needed staff to open up the automatic door for you. We brought the ticket from a lady and when she was on her break we asked the man working there to let us back it the mueseum section. This got awkward as the man thought we hadn't paid. This system isn't very practical for people who have communication disabilities. I suggest that a ticket or wrist band that has a bar code on it should be given to the visitor so they can scan the bar code and the door will open.
I had a minor panic attack and I said to one staff member "I am having a panic attack" and she snickered like I told her a joke. I don't think that's something to laugh at. In her defence I might have gave her the wrong facial expression that made her think it was okay too laugh but still panic attacks aren't funny. I think she should have asked if I was ok instead. I think staff should be trained on how to help visitors with hidden disabilities and the sunflower lanyard. I was wearing a sunflower lanyard on my visit.
