Join Isabelle Gapomo for a gallery-based talk examining intersectional code-switching between sign languages in Black Deaf communities.

Code-switching is a term for the practice of navigating the overlapping realities of Deafness, race and cultural identity by adapting communication depending on the environment.

Discover how Caribbean, Black American, and African sign languages emerged as a living blend of history, culture and politics, showing the resilience and the constant reinvention of the Black communities.

You’ll have the opportunity to ask questions and share your own experiences with the group.

The talk will take place in the 'Finger Talk' installation and the '1880 THAT' exhibition. Meet at the Information Point when you arrive.
