    About

WWT Martin Mere is where wilderness and family-friendliness combine. Spring and summer are fantastic times to visit the centre as new life develops allowing you to see the cute sights of ducklings, goslings, cygnets and chicks spring up around the reserve. Seasonal attractions include taking to the water and get a close encounter with nature on our award winning canoe safari and accessible boat tour experience, den building, see what creatures you can find on bug hunts and pond dipping sessions every weekend. But there is plenty to see and do at Martin Mere all year round, with more than 100 types of rare and endangered water-birds, a family of enchanting otters in residence, an imaginative playground for young adventurers, an inspirational eco-garden and a rolling programme of events, walks and talks. In autumn, up to 40,000 pink-footed geese use the reserve as a stopping point on their migration from Iceland providing a rare opportunity to see the display of thousands of geese whiffling over the mere. The geese are only with us a few weeks making this a must see attraction in October. In winter, many thousands of wild ducks, geese and swans are drawn to the internationally-rated wetlands, offering spectacular displays of feather and flight with an award winning experience called Swan Spectacular, watching thousands of swans feed everyday.

Has Everything - Even Baby Flamingos!

Brilliant day out for my little girl who is a bit obsessed with flamingos. It’s a large site, with a variety of different wetland areas and a LOT of birds. Very nice for a peaceful walk round, we have an annual membership so visit regularly, but there’s always something slightly different. You can feed most of the ducks (when there’s no bird flu restrictions) All very flat, most of the paths are smooth and easy to travel along. Some gates between areas, most are easy to push open but a few are quite heavy. One of the big hides has low windows you can see out of from a wheelchair - but not all of them do, despite ramps up get inside?! Some areas have fences but they don’t obscure your view when seated. Plenty of benches if you need to have a rest while looking round. Ceiling Track and changing bed in the main building. Pretty good ‘accessible’ toilet in the cafe Lots of kids activities. Boat ride is wheelchair accessible but we haven’t tried this yet. Cafe is very expensive, only downside we found. Carers can get in free.

Great place to get close to birds

Although the weather was dull had a great day going round Martin Mere. Had the seed to feed some of them, saw some more exotic ones such as the flamingoes as well as coot, mallard and moor hen.

    Great day out

There is a good (free) car park with some designated accessible places. This place is really wheelchair friendly - the paths were all accessible & I had no trouble getting round the venue. Had a nice sandwich & a pot of tea in the cafe. The accessible toilet at the cafe had plenty of room, grab rails etc.
