Overview
I visited Yuzu on a whim while working in Harrogate. There is a big step into the venue, but I noticed outdoor seating, and I had a hoodie with me, so I was fully prepared to brave the weather in exchange for something tasty. When I arrived, a member of staff noticed us outside and quickly let us know that they had a ramp and that we could sit inside if we preferred. In no time, they brought the ramp out and even offered to give me a push if needed. We were told that drinks are brought through from the bar, but all we had to do was look at the drinks menu, and they would bring whatever we ordered to the table. I would have preferred the ramp to be a permanent fixture, but the attentiveness of the staff helped me feel welcome at this venue, rather than a nuisance. The restaurant is part of the Coldbath Clubhouse, operated by Coldbath Brewing Company, though the two areas are separate.
Transport & Parking
There are two local bus stops. One is outside the Conference Centre, about 130 metres away, where the 2, 727H and S2 services operate. The other is on Cambridge Road, roughly the same distance in the opposite direction and is served by the 2, 3, 6, 24, 36, 59, 825, S2, S8, X12 and X52. The closest parking facility is the Jubilee Cark 320 metres from Yuzu, which has accessible parking spaces. I wheeled to the venue, so I can't advise on how good the facility is. Harrogate Railway station is less than half a mile away, though it's on a bit of a climb from the venue. The bus station on the same street has a fleet of accessible buses - see my review on Harrogate Bus Station for more information on how accessible they are.
Access
From the street, the first thing most wheelchair users will notice is the step at the entrance. Thankfully, the venue has a portable ramp and staff who know how to use it. Tactile paving, or at least a clearly marked step edge, would be an improvement. The doors to the venue open inwards, and the ramp is suitable for most mobility devices. If you prefer a bit of al fresco dining, there are two long benches outside with enough space for a manual wheelchair to join at the end. Once inside, there is plenty of room to move around, with a variety of seating options and both small and large tables. You can order from your table, which is always a nice touch in a restaurant. We were given the option of using the QR code on the table or ordering via the staff and paying by debit or credit card. There were no alternative formats in use and no hearing loop, which accounts for the lower score in an otherwise decent venue.
Toilets
I didn't attend the toilets during my visit - so I couldn't say if they're accessible or not.
Staff
Fantastic. The staff were very helpful, providing access to the venue without prompting, and they made sure we were comfortable and well looked after.
