We are incredibly proud to share that our co-founder, Euan MacDonald, has been featured in a prestigious new exhibition in Edinburgh. Part of the University of Edinburgh's "300 Faces of Edinburgh Medical School," this display honours people who have made a lasting impact on medicine and research over the last three centuries.
Seeing Euan’s face and story positioned in such a prominent location in the heart of the city is a fantastic tribute to his life’s work and his unwavering commitment to improving the lives of others.
A legacy of research and access
Euan was a true research advocate. Following his MND diagnosis in 2003, he didn’t just seek answers for himself, he sought to change the future for everyone. Alongside his father, he established the Euan MacDonald Centre for Motor Neuron Disease Research, which has become a hub for world-leading clinical trials like MND-SMART.
But Euan’s impact stretched far beyond the lab. By co-founding Euan's Guide with his sister Kiki, he gave our community a voice and the confidence to explore. He understood that information is the key to independence, and this exhibition celebrates that dual legacy of scientific progress and social change.
Representing the heart of our charity
The board at The Mound describes Euan as a "research advocate and graduate," but to us, he remains the heartbeat of our charity. His inclusion in this exhibition serves as a vital reminder that the work we do every day, sharing accessibility information and breaking down barriers is part of a much larger story of progress in Scotland and beyond.
Euan was previously named one of the most influential disabled people in the UK, and this latest honour ensures his contributions to Edinburgh’s history are preserved for generations to come.
Visit the exhibition at the mound
We would love for our community to see Euan’s story featured in person. If you are in Edinburgh, you can find the 300 Faces of Edinburgh Medical School exhibition located at The Mound.
It is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the incredible legacy Euan left behind and to see him honoured alongside other pioneers who shaped the history of medicine in Scotland. If you do manage to visit, please do share your photos with us, we’d love to see them!
What Is 300 Faces?
The 300 Faces of Edinburgh Medical School is a major commemorative project marking 300 years since the school was founded in 1726. It isn't just a history lesson; it’s a celebration of the people who have shaped medicine from the past right up to the present day.
The project features 300 inspirational individuals, including world-renowned surgeons, trailblazing researchers, and unsung heroes who have opened doors for others.
While all 300 stories are shared online, a special selection of 65 faces (including Euan!) is currently being showcased in a large-scale outdoor photography exhibition at The Mound.
