RSPB Bempton Cliffs

Cliff Lane, Bempton, YO15 1JF, United Kingdom | 01262 422212 | Website

Venue Description

A spectacular nature reserve set on top of 400 feet high chalk cliffs where around half a million seabirds nest from March to October. We have puffins here (April-July) and we are home to the the biggest mainland gannet colony (the UK's largest seabird) in the country. The Seabird Centre houses information about the wildlife on the cliffs, a well-stocked shop, a food/drink counter, and toilets. A wide range of events and activities take place throughout the year - from photography workshops to toddler groups.

Accessibility

The Seabird Centre is fully accessible with flat access into the building and out onto the decking area. A ramp leads down from this onto the reserve itself. The main paths to the cliffs and three cliff edge viewpoints are wheelchair accessible. A circular hard-surfaced path links all three of these viewpoints.

Accessible Performances

Part of the route of many of our guided walks is on hard-surfaced, wheelchair accessible paths.

Awards List

We are VASQAS audited and a Visit England Quality Assured attraction. We are Remarkable East Yorkshire Tourism Award winners 2014 and 2016 and 2019. Welcome to Yorkshire White Rose Awards finalist 2017. Toast of the Coast Awards finalist 2018. We've also received TripAdvisor Certificates of Excellence for the past six years.

Toilets

There is level access to all toilets. There is one all-wheelchair-accessible toilet with a sliding door. This has sturdy hand rails surrounding it, plus a low-level hand basin and dryer as well as baby changing facilities.

Staff

While not specially trained, our staff are alert to those who require additional assistance and are able to offer extra help should it be required. Some of our staff have taken part in Dementia Awareness training sessions. Several members of staff have basic knowledge of British Sign Language.

Assistance dog facilities

Assistance dog exercise facilities

Due to the fact we have nesting seabirds on the cliffs and farmland birds nesting in the meadow, dogs are only allowed on a short lead.

Other assistance dog facilities

A water bowl for dogs is placed outside the Seabird Centre. Dog-poo bins can be found on the reserve.
