Overview
The Alternativer Wolf- Und Barenpark Schwarzwald is a wheelchair accessible but precipitous Bear sanctuary featuring Bears, Wolves and Lynxes. There is an accessible loo and a cafe on-site.
Transport & Parking
Getting to the Bear Park involved driving on some relatively minor roads including hairpin bends. The carpark was right by the road but would have involved going up quite a steep slope to get to the entrance, so there were a couple of disabled spaces provided at the top of the slope.
Access
The park itself was fully wheelchair accessible apart from the shop, which had a step up to it and could have been easily ramped. The paths were made of gravel and were quite steep and challenging in many places, so if you go with a wheelchair I strongly suggest taking some kind of powered assistance or someone who can help you. There was also a golf buggy type vehicle where you could pay to have a guided tour, although we didn't use it. One nice feature was that the fences had larger holes in places to fit a camera lens through so you could more easily take photos. These with at both standing and sitting height. There were benches situated at various points round the paths.
Toilets
There was an accessible loo by the shop and there appeared to be another block of loos being built at the other end of the park with a disabled toilet. The one by the shop was ramped but it had a small lip at the top and the bottom of the ramp of a couple of centimetres. There was a grab bar by the toilet and the toilet roll was on a stand that could be moved. Unfortunately the toilet was too high to get onto it easily from a wheelchair, the sink was too high to use comfortably and the mirror was also too high. There was a suitable bin and the room was very clean.
Staff
There were quite a number of staff on site. They were friendly and helpful.
