Arbroath Railway station is a small two-platform located in the cente of Arbroath. The station has regular Scotrail services to Dundee and Aberdeen, and LNER, CrossCountry and Caledonian Sleeper services to London. The station has step-free access to each platform and an accessible toilet in the station building.
Disabled Access In and Around
Good
At the Keptie Street entrance there is a short zebra crossing with tactile paving on either side, leading to a set of automatic doors. Entering the doors and turning left will take you to the ticket desk. The desk can be lowered if needed and has a sticker highlighting the presence of a hearing loop. If you take a right, this will take you to the lift down to platform one. Platform one can also be accessed from the car park on Catherine Street, which has a dropped kerb and automatic sliding doors. The lift to platform one is located to the left of the main entrance, through a set of manual doors. Both lifts provide enough space for a powerchair user and another person. They have braille buttons inside and out, including a low set alarm button, which I appreciate. They also both have perimeter rails. The steps in the station have handrails on either side and yellow painted markings on the bottom and top steps. On platform two I found a small waiting room with a manual door and two red metal benches. On the platforms there are wooden benches. Each platform has tactile paving at the platform edge and hearing loops operate on the platforms. Departure signage can be found overhead on LED signs. Sadly I did not see BSL signage, which I am finding at more and more stations.

At the main entrance on Kaptie Street there is a conveniently located bus stop where the 27, 30, 33, 36, 40, 42, 50, 72, 73, 73A, 73B, 73C, 75, 75A and 140 services operate. There is also a drop off zone at this entrance. At the rear entrance on Catherine Street, which leads to Platform 1, there is a small car park with three accessible parking spaces, two EV charging bays and 13 standard parking spaces. Arbroath bus station is 320 metres away, at the bottom of Catherine Street.

The accessible toilet is at the main entrance on Keptie Street and requires a RADAR key to access. There are two manual doors, both of which are light, but only the first door needs the key. The toilet is much bigger than I expected, which was a nice surprise. There are silver grab rails on both sides of the toilet which contrast well against the dull grey walls. There is enough room for a right side transfer, although a bin has been placed in a slightly awkward spot, which makes using the space difficult. There is a small sink with a button operated tap, a grab rail to the right and a mirror just above. I think this toilet would work well for most people. One thing that stood out to me is that there is no red emergency cord. I have rated the facility as poor to reflect this as it is a safety concern. There is also a baby change table.
