The Arbroath War Memorial overlooks the town and casts a stone eye out across the sea. It stands in remembrance of those who fought in the first and second world wars. As I passed, I found myself stopping to enjoy a moment of calm. If you plan to visit, I would suggest coming via Alexandra Place or Rosemount Road, as the paths there are much smoother. I took the route from the hill beside the Tutties Neuk Inn, just off Dundee Street, and it was a real struggle, even with a power attachment on my wheelchair.

There are no additional features such as alternative formats in use, but the route is generally accessible to most, provided you enter from the top of the route and not the bottom. The paths are tarmacked and mostly smooth, with benches along the walkway and at the front of the monument for those who need to stop for a spell. There are steps at the front, but if you wander left or right you will find your way to the rear, which is level. The view from the memorial is spectacular on a clear day.

I travelled to this place by walk or wheel
I wheeled my way to this location. There isn't much in the way of local parking options. There is a car park a short distance away on Rosemount Road – though this appears to be used by people visiting the nearby infirmary. Information found after my visit to the memorial advises that there are accessible parking spaces at this car park but I can't see how many, or how suitable they are. For those getting the bus, the 30 and 26 services operate from Rosemount Street,
