Disabled Travellers recommend the Barnt Green inn

We are very impressed by this well cared for Inn, it’s a reasonably large inn with grounds that have plenty of outside seating facilities, disabled parking quite close to main entrance, and everywhere is on the level. Arriving at the Inn, a short driveway heads towards the main building, and the disabled bays are on your left with shade provided overhead by a line of trees. It’s then a short push for your carer towards the far end of the building all on the flat, passing many outdoor seating, some with decent sizes brollies and you may choose to enjoy a drink here, or even take a lunch time treat. You enter the Inn through double wooden doors, a bit heavy to open, but again on the level, and you arrive at a quite attractive wooden bar with painted panels. If you intend to just sit and take a drink, then over to the left of the bar, you will find comfortable and well spaced seating, with room to place your chair or scooter. Bar meals may be taken here of course. However, we recommend the restaurant, where you will book in at the welcoming desk and pleasant staff members, who will direct and take you to Your table, in what we consider to be pleasantly decorated furnishings. The menu is very interesting, not a lot of choice, but we can tell you that the chef and the team will present you with a very tasty and satisfying dish whatever you choose. Today, we throughly enjoyed the dishes our young 19 year old young chef “Phoebe” provided for us, and served by the pleasant, and well organised server, Heather, and together they gave us a treat of a lunch, so well done to them both. To begin our lunch, we relaxed with a small bottle of Moët Champage, with its pale lemon yellow and tiny and few bubbles, a sharp, dull complex but full bodied champagne, with its hint of minerals to it. We gave it 7/10 points My wife chose the Halloumy (crisp and well prepaired) with French fries with minted pea purée (unusual) and I had a very satisfying 3 sausage and mash course with no hint of herbs in the sausage, thank goodness, and mash, perfect for this dish, With home made gravy in a pot, with firm but chewy French peas, difficult to eat. with delicate fried onion rings, prepared just as I like, and very filling. We selected a small bottle of FREIXENET Alcohol free, with a pale lemon with good sized large bubbles, which I drank after the meal, which offered a dull, lemony fresh grape bouquet, and a quite full bodied dull lemony hint to the fresh pleasant fizzy drink, offering it 7/10 points. My wife enjoyed. The FINCA ANDINOS MALBEC wine of Spain with its dark deep plum and thick looking wine in the crystal glasses provided. It had a sharp tanning with hint of licorice and deep fruits, with a soft silky oak aged Smokey hint, and was sharp and full bodied, and we offered it 7/10 points. We followed the main course, after a break, when I chose the mini desert of a delightful raspberry crème brûlée, and a pot of tea, in proper china teapot and cup and saucer. My wife selected a selection of sorbets, and found these very cooling on the hot sunny day when we visited. All in all, a very satisfying lunch, which we really recommend to you. The atmosphere in the restaurant was very good, other diners also enjoying their lunch, made very welcomed by Heather, and the whole experience was a delight. The only downside to the nice and pleasant Inn, is the disabled toilet. From the restaurant it’s quite a ride to the toilet, passing through the restaurant, then going past the bar and it’s seating areas, and on ahead to then struggle through a heavy wooden doubled door before getting to the disabled toilet. Don’t try it on your own would be our thought for you. Unfortunately, it’s quite small inside, you would struggle with a large scooter, But it’s very clean, nicely decorated, with a pull cord and handrails. However, we are pleased to give the Barnt Green Inn our full marks, and highly praise all the team there for their support to disabled people.
