Overview

I'm a wheelchair user and I often struggle to get into and around "trendy" coffee shops. I had no such problem at Bear, with its level access entrance, spacious, accessible, dining area, and large accessible toilet.

The staff were excellent. The manager Jon K was extremely attentive and his staff simply couldn't do enough for us.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

I'm something of a coffee snob: I'm used to travelling across Europe, drinking amazing coffees in great cafés. So you can imagine that I was somewhat intrigued when my cousin suggested we and have brunch go to a newly-opened coffee bar in Derby city centre. I must say I was rather sceptical walking in, but I was soon bowled-over by the quality of the place and the excellent customer service. I opted to try out their Ethiopian Yirgacheffe as an Aeropress: I'm always a little panicky when I'm drinking coffee in a place I don't know for the first time. But Bear's brew didn't disappoint: whilst I'd give the brew itself an 8/10 (I'm a very harsh marker when it comes to my coffees - only a handful have made it over 9/10), I'd give the location and experience a 10. Situated on Irongate in the heart of Derby city centre, the café offers great food (I was dining with four family members from three generations and we all loved what we had to eat), I'm a wheelchair user and I often struggle to get into and around "trendy" coffee shops. I had no such problem at Bear, with its level access entrance, spacious, accessible, dining area, and large accessible toilet. The staff were excellent too. The manager Jon K was extremely attentive and his staff simply couldn't do enough for us. Bravo, Bear: I'll definitely be back again soon!
