    Good

It's always a good thing to see a Changing Places Toilet at an airport, particularly when it's airside. This provides neccesary comfort and allows for the option outbound fliers to use the facilities in the event of a delayed flight. Located to right of Gate 18, a short distance from the various eateries at duty free, it has much of the expected elements, which I'll go into more detail on below.

The route to the Changing Places toilet isn't particular clear. I knew there was one on site but I couldn't see signage advising how to find it from the bar/restaurant area. I took the ramp from here, past the WH Smith and followed the corridor until I found the toilet corridor. The first door on the right contains the Changing Places toilet – a sticker on the door makes this clear but I would have appreciated stronger signage. The toilet has a manual door which requires a RADAR key and opens inwards.

    Parking & Transport

I travelled to this place by bus

I took the 300 shuttle bus from Belfast City centre to the airport. The bus stop is found close to the main entrance to the airport, and the route is well maintained and simply to navigate with a wheelchair or mobility aid. If you are getting dropped off at the airport, the Drop Off Zone is right at the front of the terminal. There are two accessible waiting areas, each with its own shelter and an Assistance Point. There is a minimum charge of £3 to use the Drop Off Zone. If you have a Blue Badge, it may be easier to use the Short Stay Car Park. You can get 30 minutes free parking, which makes drop offs and pick ups a bit less stressful.

The toilet has an adjustable changing bed anchored to the wall, with a shower to the left. The shower areah has rubber matting for grip, while the rest of the floor has white, speckled tiles. The toilet pan is directly to the right of the changing bed and feels too close. I’m not sure if the bed can be folded but, as it was set up, there was basically no transfer space. There are silver rails on either side of the pan. There’s no contrasting toilet seat, but the rails and the pan both stand out well against the brown wall. The red cord hangs to the left when seated. The ceiling track hoist reaches both the changing bed and the toilet. There’s a large height adjustable sink with a deep basin, a lever tap, and a grab rail on the left. A Dyson Airblade hand dryer is on the right. There’s no colostomy shelf or use of alternative formats, which is a shame.
