Operating out of Carrickfergus Marina and based just to the left of Carrickfergus Sailing Club's main entrance gates Belfast Lough Sailability operates open sessions every Wednesday from April until September starting at 7.00 pm. BLS co-ordinates a variety of events to encourage those with disabilities onto the water. We have 2 motor boats (one of which is fully wheelchair friendly), 11 sailing boats, 4 kayaks & 2 rescue craft. We also welcome groups from various schools and club throughout the season.
Belfast Lough Sailability operates from a portacabin within the grounds of Carrickfergus Sailing Club, we have a ramp for wheelchair users to access the portacabin.
We are an RYA accreditated sailability centre We are also an RYA recognised training centre. We are also members of Carrickfergus Community Forum
Carrickfergus Sailing Club has just opened its new Clubhouse situated in which are two accessible toilets one of which is a wet room. There are also several showers and toilets throughout the ground floor. There is a lift for wheelchair users wishing to access the first floor. Belfast Lough Sailability has access to these facilities.
We do not have any staff all our volunteers are unpaid. All volunteers are required to undertake a Disability Awareness course, are Access NI'd, do First Aid courses and Moving & Handling courses.
