My Chemical Romance - Summer Sessions

We saw My Chemical Romance in Glasgow, our first gig as a family! I had to get a Nimbus card, navigate a webform and wait a few weeks to get a space on the access platform but it was painless. The set up at this Summer Sessions gig was sensible. The accessible entrance was separate to the main entrance, with the street outside being used as an accessible pick up and drop off. Temporary ramps were used where necessary and plastic matting was placed throughout the main routes. The platform had three tiers, ground level - in the main crowd but separated by fencing, first and second tier, with folding chairs provided as needed. Ramps with handrails and landings lead to the platforms. We chose to sit on the first. What I didn't appreciate was the two loud folks behind us, shouting and swearing as we waited for the band to come on, and asserting that they didn't care about the no smoking/vaping sign and would vape if they wanted. They stood up, blocking the view of others, Security was on them quickly. They got told politely to either sit down or go elsewhere. Four songs in, they left. A wheelchair user nearby also told someone off for the same thing. The message is clear, on the accessible platform, sit down! Live captioning was provided. The area also had a sensory tent and a Changing Places van (Pamiloo) provided by PAMIS. There was also a bar in this space, serving Koparberg and Budweiser (a horrible beer in my opinion) and soft drinks. If given the choice between Budweiser and nothing, I'll have a double nothing, please. Free tea and coffee is available. Food could be ordered using a QR code on signs nearby and is brought to you by volunteer staff, a Starlink WiFi service is available. The one downside was not having access to a merch tent or remote ordering service. I spoke to Louise, who is in charge of accessibility, who confirmed they're seeking a solution. MCR put on a great show, and I would definitely go to other Summer Sessions events.

Well managed, great staff and a brilliant experience

An all round excellent experience! From the moment we arrived, we could tell how much thought had been put into accessibility. Firstly, there was a separate entrance for accessible ticket holders. The street that this entrance was on was used for accessible parking. The staff were brilliant and put cones two meters behind our vehicle to ensure that the ramp could be used. The dip to get on the pavement was about 50 yards from where we parked and a member of staff walked us from the car to there and when we were leaving they did the same. From the accessible entrance, there was a pathway that was closed to other concert goers. This path had plastic on the grass as it had been raining and took us straight to the viewing platform. We were to the side of the stage but still reasonably close. The staff really made our experience so easy, they went for food, drinks and merchandise so we didn’t have to leave the safety of the platform. Within the platform area were a series of toilets. Some were portaloos but they also had a Mobiloo changing places toilet. I would highly recommend attending a concert here!
