Rolling round the ramparts

This location was not part of my itinerary. I just got bored and decided to go for a wander, and I am so glad I did for the views alone. Whilst I did not visit the castle, I fancied touring the walls around Berwick and I had a great time, although access would have been a challenge without my wheelchair power attachment.

Disabled Access In and Around

I arrived at the Palace Street entrance, which was quite the incline, and cobbled to boot. This made for a rickety journey. Once up, I found the route was tarmacked, with plenty of benches to stop at, whether for a rest or to look out to the water. The walls are spectacular to see. I circled around, coming to the top of the town, where there are views of the Town Hall and the main street. On exiting, I had to navigate around a very heavy gate, which could just as easily have been a bike gate, something to keep in mind if you are adventuring alone. I am certain there are smoother routes to access the walls, but I did not use them on my journey. If you have a mobility device with a bit of power and don't mind a bumpy ride, you will enjoy yourself at the ramparts. There are no alternative formats in use.

I wheeled my way here, but there are bus stop around the town that should be within reasonable distance of the different access points. Puplic parkig is also dotted around, so it depends where you want ot access the ramparts from.
