Overview
My family and I stayed at the Best Western Carlton hotel in Blackpool, and when we entered our accessible room, and after the week we all agreed it had made the stay a great experience. The room had wider doors for wheelchair users, and plenty of room to move around the main room, as we have a grown up daughter with ASD she is unable to stay in a hotel room un-accompanied, and when booking we explained this directly with the hotel, this was not a problem as she was able to share the room with my wife and I while having her own (adult) bed and her own space, one of the highlights though was bathroom which was big enough to fit another king-size bed in, the room had two wash basins , one for main activities and another smaller one next to the toilet, there was an easy entry bath with built in seat and shower , and also a full wet floor shower with a seat (with a seat belt) and hand rails which dropped to the side and front of you, this was great as I felt so safe and secure that my wife was able to get herself ready whilst I was showering (normally she has to stand close by), I was able to adjust the pressure and temperature of the shower as I needed. One of the big things that we hadn`t experienced before was that in Blackpool you can hire your own mobility scooter for the duration of the stay from local outlets, and the Hotel had an area that if your own or hired a scooter that you could leave it to charge up overnight, also as part of the scooter hire you could have the scooter delivered to and picked up from the hotel at the end of your stay (definitely something we are doing next time we visit) the only downside is the local trams don`t allow larger scooters onboard, I would also recommend the Best Western Carlton for its location there is a tram stop right outside and the trams run about every 15-20 minutes, In all I would highly recommend staying at this hotel, not just for the facilities but the staff who are all friendly and there to help and make your stay stress free.
Transport & Parking
There is limited parking at the hotel with a small charge to park, this was ok as it meant we could leave the car and get the tram into the main areas we visited, without worrying about finding a parking spot. Regards local transport we got a weekly Tram ticket (available online and on the tram) for £22.00 each this is valid for unlimited journeys as long as the trams are in service, and expire at midnight on the last day from the date of purchase.
Access
There are both steps and a ramp into the hotel with wider doors for access, also stairs and a lift to all floors,
Toilets
There was a clean, good sized accessible toilet for public use on the ground floor, in Blackpool there are a number of Radar Key toilets operated by the local council, details available via council website.
Staff
All staff were helpful and friendly while being professional at all times, to name two members of staff I`d say Nicola and Alex on Breakfast.
