A beautiful old theatre encased in a modern building.

A wheelchair accessible theatre where the staff were friendly and very helpful. It offered a free carer ticket which was great to see.

Wheelchair accessibility

I have been to a number of theatres since being a wheelchair user. Many of the older ones cannot be made as accessible as we would like. Birmingham Hippodrome was in my experience the exception. Accessibility was excellent. There is an area set aside for people with mobility issues and their companions which meant that there was room to manoeuvre and the view of the stage was excellent.

Disabled Access at Birmingham Hippodrome

To gain entry to the theatre (Main Entrance, Hurst St), there are automatic doors with a push button on the right, leading to either 6 steps or a ramp into the main foyer area. The ramp is tiled stone flooring. After that, all the foyers are carpeted, except outside the restaurant on Level 3 / Middle Circle Foyer and outside the lifts where there are short sections of wooden flooring.

Toilets features at Birmingham Hippodrome

There are accessible toilets on each foyer level, each having an assistance pull cord. Baby Changing facilities are situated next to the accessible toilet on the Front Circle Foyer (Level 2 in the lift).

A designated accessible toilet designed for wheelchair users and others with visible and non-visible accessibility requirements is available within the main public areas.
