BOA Museum at the College of Optometrists

42 Craven Street, London, WC2N 5NG, United Kingdom | 020 7766 4353 | Website

Venue Description

The museum of the eyecare professions is a unique specialist resource, outlining the historic work of optometrists, opticians and spectacle makers, comprising primarily antique and modern vision aids (spectacles, lenses, contact lenses, lorgnettes, magnifiers, telescopes etc.), sight-testing equipment and ocular prostheses as well as the artistic representation of all these items in use. Partly a museum of science, but equally a museum of fashion, art and design.

Accessibility

There is disabled access throughout the majority of our historic Georgian building and the museum displays. As all visits are by guided tour, objects in inaccessible areas may be brought out for visitors with disabilities to see. A lift serves all public floors, however there is unfortunately no step-free access to actually enter the building. Reasonable assistance will be offered to negotiate the two steps to the front door and a collapsible ramp is available on request. Visually impaired visitors are encouraged to touch the exhibits and these will be described to them by the tour guide. Please discuss your needs when booking a visit.
