Overview

Being train daft, it’s not just about the mechanised side of things, but the Bologna Centrali Station is a majestic building in its own right fully modified to accommodate full accessibility, provision and services from the point of entrance, to platform to travel. Information and ticketing perfect, less than £10 return on an express train the distance of Edinburgh to Aberdeen communication no problem, recognition of my needs and provision of specialist guidance to platform, train and seat offered. Seats, carriage space greater as their track dimensions are wider, although our fasttrain to Rimini for San Marino was onlyan hour we were later in leaving, our return journey was delayed by 3 hours but each customer received a meaningful apology and a customer care pack containing foods, fruit, drinks, sweets and nibbles. British Railways take note on all the above.

Transport & Parking

From Bologna Marconi Airport we took the 15 min bus journey €4 direct to the Centrali Train Station, this bus was wheelchair accessible, single deck every 15 mins. The access points were all on the same level, as with arrival. There was very clear signage, direction markers, cobbled guidance and staff available for info and support. The bus stops at the Airport, Bus and Rail Stations we’re fully dedicated stops. 10 meters from the entrances.

Access

Great, all on one level, no lifts, escalators, ramps or access issues, well signed, directions and disabled access multi lingual info points. There were access points for disabled taxi provision with modified vehicles. Situated in a grand square there was ample seating available.

Toilets

Did not use, but there was very clear and visible signage and directions to what they described as accessible toilets. One of Group said they were fully equipped and well serviced. Again, all British Railways take note.

Staff

A real focus by Italian Railways is helping people, offering info with directions and good communication skills. Could have not been more helpful nothin Bolo and in Rimini, fantastic.

Their trains are great but the services are not always punctual, so you may have to make allowances in your travel.
