Enjoy a free guided tour with one of the enthusiastic guides who will help bring the cars to life. There is also an onsite café serving hot and cold meals and snacks. British Motor Museum

This place is not only fascinating, it has been really well thought out from an Access point of view. I have never seen so many people in wheelchairs or mobility scooters anywhere else. Really good, plenty of disabled loos, parking and lift facilities. No steps, just easy access

Absolutely Brilliant

Brilliant day and disabled people are really made to feel welcome. Lots of room around exhibits to get mobility scooter right round most vehicles. Well placed information in the main Hall. The other building to explore was the Collection Centre, this too had great access downstairs and lift to upstairs, upstairs you could only really see front vehicles as they were parked in groups of 3 but loads to see. Lifts to all floors and disabled toilets in a plenty too. Cafe was well spaced so no problem sitting at table with family. Couldn’t have wished for a better place to visit. A must for everyone even if your not that into cars as there is lots of information to read and remember.

HERITAGE MOTOR MUSEUM, GAYDON

On the main level of the museum, there is plenty of room to negotiate wheelchairs around the vehicles and there are lifts to the Mezzanine level and up to the restaurant/conference facilities levels. Shop, Restaurant and Cinema are all on flat.

Disabled Access at British Motor Museum

We recognise that our visitors and online users have a variety of needs. We are committed to ensuring that our Museum and services as accessible as possible and work with various groups to monitor and improve. The museum has no steps or inclines with automatic doors, wide walkways and doorways suitable for wheelchairs/Motability scooters. There is a reduced height pay desk, plenty of seating around the building and lift access to the Café. Interpretation is a mix of audio and visual with hands on interactive points. - There is lift access to all floors and there are level floors within the Museum, Café and Collections Centre. - Accessible toilets can be found on all levels of the main building and downstairs in the Collections Centre. A Changing Places toilet can be found in the Museum Rotunda, equipped with a hoist, an adult-sized changing table, and plenty of space for carers. The toilet can be accessed with a Radar Key, please ask at the Museum Pay Desk if you need to borrow one. - Baby changing facilities are on the ground floor of the Museum. - Push along cars: swap your pushchairs for our push along cars located next to the Museum Pay Desk. - A limited number of wheelchairs are available free of charge from the Museum Pay Desk. If you require a wheelchair for your visit we recommend you contact us to check availability on 01926 895300 or email enquiries@britishmotormuseum.co.uk. We can then reserve the wheelchair once we have confirmation that you have purchased your ticket. Visitors are welcome to request a wheelchair upon arrival but we cannot guarantee one will always be available. - Guide or Assistance Dogs are welcome. - Portable Induction Loops are available from the Museum Pay Desk or Conference Reception. - Ear defenders are free and can be collected from the Family activity station - Quieter times - we are often quieter from 3pm–5pm on weekdays, if you would like to visit when there are fewer people around. During our regular Access Days, we showcase a whole host of exciting accessible activities and initiatives; later opening hours, Touch and Access Tours, specially adapted shows and crafts, and SEND and sensory bags are just some of the ways we aim to create the best museum experience for those with additional needs. We also hold monthly afternoons known as Mellow Mondays, enabling those who prefer a quieter environment to enjoy the Museum’s collections! Between 3pm and 5pm, audio-visuals and hand dryers are switched off (paper towels will be provided), and the lighting is lowered. Accessible activities will be running too, all included with your admission! Check out our What's On page for details of upcoming Access Days and Mellow Mondays.

There is a disabled toilet and baby changing facilities on the Museum level with wide doors, grab rails, a raised toilet seat, easy turn taps, and an emergency pull cord. There are 2 further disabled toilets outside the Café, one left handed and one right, with the same spec.

There is a Changing Places toilet, which includes an adult-size changing bench, toilet, sink and hoist.

We offer sensory guided Touch and Access Tours of the Museum with one of our expert guides who can help bring our collection to life. Visitors can pre-book a tour by calling 01926 895295 (Mon-Fri) or emailing community@britishmotormuseum.co.uk. Touch tours can be offered on the day but this is subject to staff availability. All Museum staff have completed the Disability Awareness & Etiquette training run by Wideaware and Dignity at Work training.
