This old 17th century coaching Inn stands in the village of Meridian, regarded as the centre of England. It’s only a few miles away from the NEC centre, and The Airport of Birmingham. It’s a down to earth pub, but of a higher quality, with an excellent dinning experience. The Inn is part of the “Premium country pub collection” and is our fourth Inn we offer a review of. Please check our other reviews, as it’s a well run group worth visiting. THE BOOT INN, STUDLEY, WEST MIDLANDS. 4 stars KINGS ARMS, KNOWLE, WEST MIDLANDS 4.5 stars BARNT GREEN, BARNT GREEN, WORCESTER. 5 stars BULLS HEAD, MERIDAN, COVENTRY. 3.5 stars Meridan is attractive enough with its village green, and monument, marking it as the recognised centre of England, but rather dull and uninviting, but a visit to say you have stood in the centre of England is worth while, as you journey around Stratford apron Avon, Warwick, and Kenilworth castle. Just beyond the monument, you quickly arrive at this plain, unremarkable Inn and the disabled bays are just beyond the main carpark, holding just 4 bays. PLEASE NOTICE THE SIGN advising you to register your car at the bar. Make sure you do. You can enter the Inn by the narrow door to the left just before main road, or enter via the court yard and under the canopy. There are a few rattan chairs and tables in the courtyard, but it’s rather hot here on those sunny summer days. Over to the left is a pleasant summer garden, offering shady seating, then you enter via a narrow plain doorway. The inn is mainly level, as you reach the bar, with a reasonable amount of wooden table and chairs, where a reasonable selection of drinks may be taken. We selected as our aperitif an alcohol free cocktail of Juniper and tonic, clear water like appearance, very dry, with fir leaf flavours, not particularly to my taste, but it’s Dry and welcoming. My wife enjoyed the White VIDAL RESERVE SAUVIGON BLANCE, New Zealand, it was clear and sharp in the glass, with a green hue. 4 points which had a vibrant grass with Lime zest smell, 4 points. it was Dry, lemony, with grass like grape sharp hints. 4 points Overall, a pleasant wine, very enjoyable And we offered 7/10 Beyond the bar, you will see the hotels reception area, but there are steep narrow stairs and no lift available, so of no use to disabled. In the main courtyard you will find 4 rooms situated in the old barn areas, not particularly inspiring, but they are clean and well maintained. There are spots in the bar lounge where wheelchairs can be placed, and the staff are very willing to support disabled, and we enjoyed our relaxing time sipping our drinks until time to join others in the restaurant. By the booking in desk there are two small steps needed to get down into main areas, but if you continue ahead to pass the restaurant and along the narrow passage, you can enter on the flat. It’s along this passageway you will find the accessible toilet, which is very basic, small, and difficult for a large scooter anyway. The main restaurant is very comfortable without any fuss, and you are served by attentive staff, but with the frills. You won’t find costumes or such like, jeans and shorts are the order, but as with all dishes by this group, the food is excellent, always presented well, and HOT. I had the crab fish cake with chunky chips, very nice, just a light hint of fish which suited myself, and would recommend this as a light lunch. It was extremely hot this day, so ice cream suited as desert with a second dessert, (ordered as part of my free special club choice) of the chocolate brownie. Ideal desserts. Our overall feeling was of satisfaction, but not up to the standard of the other three Inns we have reviewed for you. However, the food was good, far better than pub meals offered round and about, and we do recommend you joining the premium club card offers, very good offers we must say.
