Carnoustie Train Station is a small station close to the seafront and town centre. With trains to Glasgow, Dundee and Arbroath it is well connected for those exploring the Angus region. Peering over the wall on platform 1 you will find ocean views which makes this quite a scenic station. As a small station it is perfectly serviceable but I was disappointed to learn that the intercom on both platforms was not working. I was trying to speak to someone to make sure I had assistance after a change to my schedule but I was unable to get through. I had to hope a member of the train staff saw me and that they would let me board. Fortunately they did, but it is a little scary not knowing if you'll get on the train or not.

    Disabled Access In and Around

    Poor

I've rated disabled access as poor, primarily because the intercoms at the station were not working. I tried the intercoms on both sides but I was unable to arrange assistance, which is not a positive experience for a lone disabled traveller. There are ramps with handrails to access both platforms and for those who are able to use them there are stairs and a walkway between the two. The stairs have yellow painted edges at each level change and handrails. Overhead signage is clear with train information provided on scrolling LED screens. Each platform has tactile paving at the platform edge, a rain shelter and seats. There is no ticket machine on platform 2. You will find it in the shelter on platform 1 which feels like an oversight. This can be managed by purchasing tickets online but it is frustrating all the same. I would give the access an increased score if the intercoms were fixed though at the moment the score feels appropriate. An important point to note is that when the level crossing is in operation wheelchair users will not be able to change platforms. I used the loo at the hotel on platform 2 and came out to find the barriers were down, not what you need when your train is due. Using my wheelchair power attachment, I raced up to Church Street, swung a sharp left on to Fox Street then went through the underpass to arrive at platform 1, only to learn that my train had been delayed and the one that pulled in was not mine. You've got to laugh!

I travelled to this place by walk or wheel

There is a small car park near platform 2 with 17 standard parking spaces and two accessible parking spaces, that is to say there are two side-on bays with wheelchair symbols painted inside them. The spaces have no hatched markings and, because of the metal barriers lining platform 2, they require some creative parking which is not a great design decision. There is space to drop off and pick up in the car park. The nearest bus stops are on Church Street roughly 160 metres from the station where the 73, 73A, 73B and 73C services operate.

Accessible facilities: Drop-off or pick up point, Dedicated on-site parking

    Accessible Toilets

There are no toilets at this station..
