Cockenzie House and Gardens - not accessible.

There was no signage to let me know that I needed to go back out into the street and around the corner to get to an accessible door to enter the building. The lift was out of order, judging by the state of the sign which had fallen off the lift, it had been like that for quite some time. Checking yesterday I see that the lift is still out of order, meaning no access to the cafe or toilets. Many items were blocking the corridor to the lift, also reported in May, it's still in the same deplorable state. I suggested having a phone number for the cafe on the broken lift sign so people can at least have refreshments brought to them, this has clearly been ignored. If you are a wheelchair user, this place is not at all accessible, nor do they appear to care about access.

Seaside Visit with Cockenzie House and Gardens

A short trip out from Edinburgh, LRT bus 26 takes about an hour and walking back from Seton Sands, Cockenzie House makes a useful coffee stop. Weds to Sun Saltire Grill provides a kiosk for refreshments in the house gardens. Picnic seats and tables are well spaced out in on the lawn and orchard and you can visit the pond and allotments. Sadly not toilet facilities in this early stage of lockdown easing. A nice sunny corner in the John Muir Way.

    A Tranquil Place

I accessed from the rear, via The John Muir Walk, where there is a lift to all floors, and went to the first floor Café for coffee and home made cake (well you have to) which was delicious!! and overlooks the peaceful wild garden. Such a lovely setting and the volunteering staff members made me feel very welcome.
