I've developed a bit of a habit of losing track of time, so much so that I've wound up having cake for lunch as there were no lunch options available at the time of my arrival. That's what brought me to Cross Keys. I didn't stay, so I couldn't say what the rooms are like but I can tell you about the restaurant, the attentive staff and the the accessible toilet.

There are automatic doors at the entrance to the hotel, which is always helpful. Inside there is an immediate incline, a carpeted ramp with rails on either side. Generally, carpets pose a challenge for me as a manual wheelchair user, but this one is not especially thick. I encountered a bit of friction but was able to get up the ramp. At the top of the ramp, you will find the reception desk. The desk does not have a lowered counter and I did not see any signage for a hearing loop. The restaurant is to the right of the reception desk and has the same carpeting throughout. Most tables have upholstered wooden chairs. I moved one out of the way and remained in my wheelchair, and I was able to get my knees under the table comfortably. Menus are on the tables but I had to pay at the bar by stretching up and tapping my phone. My cake and coffee were brought to me. The bar does not have a lowered section, though it does have a decent variety of beers (not that that makes up for it). There is plenty of space to move around with most mobility aids. There are no alternative formats in use.

I travelled to this place by personal vehicle
There are 45 parking spaces just outside of the hotel, with free parking available to Blue Badge holders The only downside is the lack of accessible parking spaces. There is a single bay outside that is marked for used by disabled people, but it's just lettering at the foot of a standard parking space. Painting black spots on a polar bear doesn't make it a dalmation. The closest bus stop is 160 metres away on Shedden Park road. There are no EV spaces at this location.

You do not need a RADAR key to get into the accessible toilet, but you do need to navigate one inward-opening door and one outward-opening door. The toilet is clean and features white rails on either side of the toilet pan. These are set against magnolia walls, so there is some contrast, but it is not especially strong. The right-side transfer space is clear and the flush is on this side, as it should be. What really lets it down is the lack of an emergency cord, which is especially bad when there are two sets of doors between you and the staff. The sink has a small basin with a lever-style tap, a mirror above (which is too high for wheelchair users) and a single grab rail to the right.
