Good wheelchair access to 90% of museum.
Transport & Parking
There is on street parking available which is free to badge holders. Derby bus station is about 10 minutes walk away and train station about 30 minutes walk away. There are bus stops a few minutes walk away to some areas.
Level access entry with automatic doors on entrance. Lifts to access all floors. The through floor lift also has an electric door. Hearing loop is available. Supposedly for safety on two wheelchair users allowed on upper floors for evacuation reasons. Some of the labels on the walls were not easy to read as was small print and on a white background, not sure if any large print available as I used my phone to zoom in. Seating available. Some areas could only be accessed via manual fire doors. The mummy section was not accessible to wheelchairs as there was a step. One area had drawers to open which were low down and not easy to open as there was no lip on handle to grip.
Toilet on level 1 has an electric opening door. Not much turning space or room for a second person. Silver grab rails around toilet and sink. Toilet is left side transfer. Toilet and sink have sensors to use. Nearest changing places toilet is Derby Council House or Intu Derby.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
To improve access, all doors should be left open or made electric.
