Derrynane House

What a wonderful visit. The museum was very interesting, and the gardens were beautiful, if hard work to push through. I loved it!

This was the house of Daniel O'Connell, an important Irish historical figure, and you watch a film about his life before visiting the rooms he and his family lived in. There was a lift inside and I got round pretty much everywhere on my small scooter, with the help of one or two alternative wheelchair entrances where there were steps to the main doorways. We had a nice lunch at the adjoining cafe, using outside seating which was fine for me, but I don't know what the indoor seating was like because it wasn't open due to Covid. The museum part was interesting and worth visiting, and a plus of the visit was the level grassy path from the house across the dunes to the low cliffs above the beach. The beach itself wasn't one for wheelchairs, but it was wonderful to be able to get right amongst the sandy wildflower meadows on my scooter, and the views were amazing.
