Overview

As with my other reviews I have done on trip advisor, the following is written from a wheelchair users’ point of view. The bedroom we were allocated was really spacious, in the room itself and the bathroom. My wife travels with a door stop to help get me in and out whilst in the wheelchair but on this occasion this was not need as there was a built in one. Ingenious – I wish all hotels had this on accessible rooms. The bedroom itself was very spacious with lots of space for my wheelchair to manoeuvre and also lead onto a spacious balcony which had views over the pool and out to sea. The location of the hotel was ideal. At the rear there was an exit to the long walk way to the harbour one way and along to the rear of the shopping centre the other. Both were mostly flat, ideal for my wife pushing me along. During our 10 day holiday, she pushed me for 82 miles. The only downside I had was the slow internet speed and lack of English tv channels.

Transport & Parking

Access

Getting around the hotel and grounds was made easy with lifts and ramps. We really enjoyed the ‘out of the way’ areas on the ground, with lots of sun loungers about. Although the hotel seemed quite busy, there seemed to be ample space, outside and in. Throughout the stay, we found the food to be excellent. I admit to being a bit of a fussy eater and my wife is a vegetarian, but we both enjoyed the delicious and varied food, both at breakfast and dinner. I commend the hotel for having a number of tables put aside for those who have mobility impairments. There were located near to the door and the buffet.

Toilets

The bathroom was also spacious, with a shower glassed off (although the panel moved back and a handrail along the wall) The shower was powerful and easily adjusted. The hotel supplied a shower chair which was very useful. I needed my wife’s assistance to get this over the ‘lip’ around the floor of the shower however. There was ample room for me to use my wheelchair at the sink, which had sufficient space for toiletries, although there was another shelf in the room for these. It was with the ‘loo’ that I struggled however. I found it very low (I am used to a raised one) and in hindsight I ought to have hired a raiser. In photographs I had been sent, they showed a grabrail on the left. Alas this room only had one on the right which I found a problem as I can only use my left arm/hand.

Staff

The staff in the restaurant were very helpful, friendly and attentive, as were all those we had dealings with in the hotel.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

Normally we don’t attend hotel entertainment nights but here we thoroughly enjoyed them, including a variety show by the entertainment team (who also worked hard during the day), a Flamenco night, Abba Tribute, and a night based on the Queen Musical. This was our first visit to Fuerteventura and, should we go back, we would not hesitate staying at the Elba Carlota. Thanks to all for making our stay an enjoyable one.
