If you're in the market for a post office, grocery, gift and coffee shop, the Eriskay Community Shop has you covered. We popped in for a coffee in the morning to fuel us up ahead of the ferry crossing and picked up a fridge magnet while we were there.
Disabled Access In and Around
Average
There are two doors at the entrance. The first was pinned open, while the second is a manual sliding door. This was opened for us, so I can't say how heavy it is. The shop is spacious enough to get around for wheelchair and powerchair users but not for scooter users. There is little in the way of signage, but the shop is split into three specific zones. There are no alternative formats in use as far as I could see and now lowered counters.

There is a small car park to the side of the shop, at the community centre, as well as space to park at the wall just outside the entrance. The spaces are all unmarked. A bus stop can be found 35 metres from the entrance. There are no electric vehicle charging points.

Staff were friendly and helpful.
Additional Information
There are benches just outside to sit with a coffee or a snack when the weather is nice. Lighting levels in the shop are medium, with only a few windows providing natural light. If adding stamps to your Island Passport app, there's also a brass plate outside for rubbings.

Thank you very much for taking the time to share your thoughts and feedback — we truly appreciate hearing from visitors, as it helps us understand how we can continue to improve. We’re a small community shop, and we’ve put great care and effort into accessibility within our limited space. We reduced our garden area specifically to create more space so disabled and less mobile visitors can get closer to the entrance more easily. Our sliding door was installed for safety reasons — we have a second fire exit door nearby, and the sliding design prevents doors swinging open and striking people. Inside, we have kept one of our counters at a lower height specifically to suit wheelchair users, and we can confirm that wheelchair access throughout the shop is possible. Regarding signage — we aren’t entirely sure what additional signage you were looking for, so we’re grateful for this note! If you could let us know what would have helped you find your way around or understand our facilities more easily, we would be very happy to look into it. We are limited in how far we can extend our premises, but we always aim to be as clear and helpful as we can be. On the subject of accessible toilets — there is a fully wheelchair-accessible toilet located in the community hall next door. If you had asked any member of staff, we would have happily directed you there. We are committed to being as welcoming and helpful as possible to everyone, and we’re sorry that on this occasion your experience fell short of what we strive to provide. We hope this clarifies the steps we have taken so far, and we welcome any further specific suggestions you might have — we are always listening and looking at ways to do better within our means.
