Overview

It would have been a 5 if the staff/diner ratio had been higher. So many people told me about Falko’s that it had to be on my bucket list for this holiday. I had tried before but found out too late that it is closed every Tuesday. The restaurant was so popular in Gullan that it moved to larger premises in Haddington in 2018. The restaurant is bright and fresh with prints decorating the walls. They do not take bookings, and it is essential to get there by midday. Even then it was quite busy. Luckily my carer had advised them that I was in a wheelchair the day before and they had put aside a table. A little bit of furniture shuffling was necessary, to get the chair in and it's definitely not suitable for large electric wheelchairs.

Transport & Parking

Unbelievable parking. Blue badge spaces 50 meters from the front door.

Access

A ramp takes you down and the only disadvantage is that my carer had to get the help of a passing diner to hold the door open.

Toilets

Did not require to use the toilets so unable to comment.

We were given our menus promptly, and the waitress took our order as soon as she saw we were ready. There are only two German beers on the menu, so I chose Erdinger. It came in a lovely tall glass, great for handling if you could handle it! We had a metal straw which my carer lost grip of after my first gulp, and it went down to the bottom and was almost lost forever until she had to go through the frothy top to pick it out! There was absolutely no problem in asking for a more practical vessel for a disabled person.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

The restaurant is owned by a German and is renowned for it’s bread and cakes, so if that’s your thing this is where you should head. The menu majors on Shnitzel as you would expect but there were plenty of other choices to suit most palettes. I had a Goats Cheese, Beetroot, Walnut and Rocket Salad. My carer chose the Leek and Fennel Soup with three thick slices of home baked bread. Her opinion was that the soup was far tastier than the one she had at the Bonnie Badger and she could of eaten even more than the allocation of bread that she was given as it was so good. My salad was wonderful. Despite it not looking overly large, I only left some beetroot and most of the rocket. It was an excellent combination. By the time we had finished and were ready to order our cakes we noticed the restaurant was full and there were people waiting for tables. We reluctantly took the decision to just get the bill as it was evident that there was not enough staff to clear tables, serve desserts and look after those keen to enjoy the experience.
