Overall Rating
Excellent
Firecastle Kildare is a cafe, deli, bakery and grocery all-in-one, serving super delicious and tasty home made food. The cafe is step free with indoor and outdoor seating with views of the town's main square. One of the best places I ate during my holiday.
Disabled Access In and Around
Excellent
There is outside seating with freestanding tables and chairs and large umbrellas. There is step free access throughout the cafe/ shop which is all located on the ground floor. The manual entrance door was open when I visited. At the front there is the shop, selling groceries and some gifts. At the back is the cafe's glass counters displaying its delicious food. There is some indoor seating.
Parking & Transport
Excellent
In the main square. Kildare Railway Station is about a 15 minute walk away, mostly on the flat apart from a slope up towards the town square. There are local buses that stop in the town centre.
Accessible Toilets
Excellent
At the back of the cafe is an accessible toilet. It has a manual door and does not require a key. It is very spacious but it also contains a baby changing facility and a couple of tables. There was a shelf on the floor near the door, see photo, but when I mentioned it to staff, they said it should not be there and would move it straight away. The accessible toilet was clean, tidy and well maintained. It has grab rails but no emergency cord.
Staff
Excellent
Staff were so lovely and friendly. You order at the counter and they bring the food to your table.
Additional Information
This is a beautiful, accessible cafe and shop, serving good quality food, including vegetarian options. It has a lovely atmosphere and I would in a moment go back. Highly recommend if you are looking for a real treat.
