Located just outside Birmingham New Street Station, Grand Central tram stop is an accessible gateway to wider Brum. With level boarding on either side and a wide range of access features, it is a great way to set off on the right foot (or wheels).

Disabled Access In and Around

Good

It is no secret that I love a tram, mostly because it is consistently the most accessible mode of transport out there. Level boarding means no ramps and when on board there is plenty of space. Each platform has shelter from the rain. Platform 2 has a shelter with seats, while platform 1 is shielded by an awning that is part of the station. However, only platform 2 has seats. There are ticket machines on either platform and tactile marking at the platform edge. Arrival times are displayed on overhead dot matrix signage and printed times are installed at the platforms. The arrival of trams is signalled by a bell sounding. I did not see a hearing loop symbol at the tram stop, but there are loops active on the trams.

There is not much to say about local parking, but the location of the tram stop is ideal because it saves those who have just arrived in the city from having to make a trek to get where they are going.

There are accessible toilets and a Changing Places toilet in New Street Station.
