Public toilets are often unpleasant and this one is no different. I visited this loo after eating at the nearby Cedar café which doesn’t have an accessible toilet. I genuinely couldn’t recommend this facility to anyone. If you’re able to I’d suggest looking for another loo in nearby towns like Cockburnspath or Eyemouth.

The toilet is accessed via a dirt path, or a poorly mainted road. Should it be raining or have recently rained, I expect the first route would be difficult if not impossible for many disabled people.

There is no real parking to speak of, only a few spaces at the Cedar café which has a specified disabled parking area with no marked bays. Alternatively you can park on the nearby road, although it is often used by lorries. The toilet door has a wheelchair user symbol and a sign on the roadside points to the toilet block.

Grim isn't a word I use often but it's definitely appropriate. The toilet door sits at the top of a short ramp, it opens inwards and requires a RADAR key. The first thing I noticed was the toilet pan. There's no seat, just two rounded blocks of wood on the left and right edges to perch on. The grab rail is on the right and it's fitted on a diagonal. On the positive side, the right-side transfer space is at least clear even though there's no rail on that side. The flush is on this side but there is no red emergency cord. The sink is in an awkward spot with no knee clearance, which means wheelchair users end up stretching over it. The tap is button operated and the water came out cold. There’s no mirror or any rails near the sink either. The toilet is rather worn down and could really do with being brought up to standard. As it is, I'd suggest going elsewhere. I expect the standard toilets are the same but at least non-disabled folks have the alternative of the nearby café.
