Good facilities overall

Overview

Excellent in some areas, but with a few areas of oversight which has the potential to negatively affect your visit. Despite this, it is overall a good pool with an excellent disabled changing room.

Transport & Parking

1

Only two disabled parking spaces which are very small and have no hatchings. They are only slightly bigger than the standard spaces but there is not nearly enough spaces and they are very poor. You end up having to park virtually on the line on one side to be able to get a wheelchair in and out which wouldn’t leave the neighbouring vehicle to do the same. They are often full even when the centre is not too busy.

Access

4

Overall good, front desk was a bit high but not above seated head height like some. There is plastic screens up so most of the receptionists don’t wear masks, which is useful when you rely on lipreading. Lift to get down to the pool changing rooms isn’t the biggest but manageable for most wheelchairs. However it’d be worth checking the AccessAble listing for exact measurements if concerned. Access around changing area is excellent and there is a portable type pool hoist for access to the pool.

Toilets

3.5

The facilities are excellent in the disabled changing room/bathroom - height adjustable adult size changing bench, roll in shower with large wall mounted shower seat, ceiling hoist, and a raised toilet with rails on both sides, though there is only space on the right side of the toilet for a lateral transfer as the toilet is in the corner. There is also a wheeled shower chair available. However, this facility is the only disabled toilet available poolside which is a massive oversight. It means that if someone else is changing, which can take a while even for those without disabilities, there is no access to a disabled toilet unless you go back upstairs which is far from ideal as the lift is very close to the front door so it is very cold if you are only in swimwear! There should be a another disabled toilet available, not just the one in the changing room which is why I marked this down despite the available facilities being good, there just isn’t enough! I ended up having to wait a long time to get access to the toilet but still ended up having to go upstairs as I couldn’t wait any longer.

Always friendly and helpful, but also give me space if I say I don’t need help - which is much appreciated.
