Overview

Level access shop located in a big retail park, selling lots of different craft supplies and storage.

Transport & Parking

With being within a retail park there are lots of parking spaces and there are at least 4 disabled parking spaces right outside the entrance to the shop. This retail park is located in a busy area of Dundee about a 10 minute drive from the city center so there are plenty of buses that come through the retail park and other nearby bus stops.

Access

4.5

There are a set of automatic doors to enter this shop and it is very spacious at the entrance, you enter and exit through the same set of doors. Within the shop there is a wide pathway right down the center of the shop and individual aisles going off at either side. I feel the middle of the shop is wider than what it used to be, maybe to help with social distancing. The aisles are quite narrow I feel and if someone else was in the aisle it would be difficult to get past them. I drive a 3 wheeled powered wheelchair and by going slowly I was able to turn around to go up and down either way of the aisle, but it is a struggle. The bottom where items were on display for selling stuck out further than the rails/shelves that the items are on so wheelchair users may struggle to reach things (see photo below). At the till area I’d say it is quite spacious but they are higher than my reach from my wheelchair. Also with the shields up between tills I wasn’t able to get into it as my carer handed over the items I was buying and did my payment. However, there was enough space for me not to right up at the till.

I did not visit a disabled toilet whilst here and I also didn’t see one.

Staff

Any time I am visiting Hobbycraft the staff are always very friendly and helpful, this time was no different.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

Hobbycraft allows 30 customers into the shop at one time which I feel is a lot but that is maybe because this is the second shop I’ve visited this year and I’m not really looking forward to crowded spaces. Last year before shops closed again I noticed there was always a queue outside but it was quite when I visited so no queue. There was a sanitizing station as you entered the shop. I didn’t notice any one way systems within the shop but there were some social distancing markings on the floors. All staff I saw were wearing masks and there was protective shields around the till areas.
