Good
Hotel very convenient for Mechelen old town centre (within walking distance for able bodied - 10 minutes on mobility scooter to the main square, where there a many excellent restaurants (including accessible ones) and beautiful buildings. Please note: Mechelen is a really lovely old town, but most roads and pavements in the old town are cobbled - and hell on a wheelchair or mobility scooter.
Disabled Access In and Around
Good
step free entrance to hotel, and lifts to upper floors. Not much in reception. Step-free access to breakfast facilities. Able to book disabled room on-line
Parking & Transport
Good
There is parking under the hotel - charged at Euro16 per night, but as there is a height restriction of 1.80m and our car & roof rack is 1.85m, we were unable to use it. HOWEVER, all street parking in Mechelen is free for Blue Badge holders, and we were always able to find a nearby park. May be more of a problem if you need to park directly outside, and leave the car there (not really possible) for any length of time - just for unloading). I was accompanied by my able bodied husband - who dealt with the parking and ferrying when needed.
Accessible Toilets
Good
I think there was one in reception - grab rails, room to manoeuvre with wheelchair Bathroom in hotel room plenty large enough to manoevre round - grab rails . The floor under the shower is tiled and quite slippery, also the shower seat was too small for me and I nearly fell off. Informed staff and they were pleased to pass on my concerns. Everything else very well maintained and clean
Staff
Excellent
Very friendly and helpful. Full - and easy to follow - instructions on how to get to the hotel given in advance. Also, short cuts to main square.
Additional Information
Mechelen is lovely (once you get over the incessant shaking from the cobbles) and this hotel was perfectly placed to visit it.
