In 1910 Fred Karno’s famous music hall troupe set sail for New York. Part of the company were two young men who would change the world of comedy forever.

Stanley Jefferson would eventually hook up with a gentle giant from Georgia called Oliver Hardy and form the greatest ever double act. Or would he…? Charlie Chaplin who had survived a brutal, destitute childhood in Victorian London, and who had his heart set on fame, had other ideas!

Inspired by true events and offering a unique insight into the early careers of two extraordinary artists, Told by an Idiot fuse fact, memory and alarming fantasy in this funny, moving and unsettling melodrama.

Told by an Idiot is accessible to d/Deaf audience and will feature creative captioning throughout.
