Overview

Small 29 roomed hotel in the centre of St Martin de Re, the largest town on Ile de Re. Hotel as 2 accessible bedrooms on ground floor. Hotel only serves breakfast. However there are numerous restaurants and cafes very close by.

Transport & Parking

I took a taxi to/from the hotel booking the taxi company which featured on the hotel's website. It was easy arranged. The vehicle was a people carrier and on the way back they brought a people carrier with a slide out step for easier access. There are buses from La Rochelle. St Martin de Re La Port bus stop is 2 minutes away from the hotel. The buses are coaches and the door by the driver has a sign for people with mobility difficulties, although there was a hand rail, the steps were still quite steep. The middle door of the buses are labelled with a wheelchair sign.

Access

There are 4 steps with a handrail to the hotel entrance and there is also a disabled accessible lift. Once inside there's a reception area, which is staffed until 10pm and if you arrive back later you have a code to open the door. On the ground floor is 2 accessible bedrooms with walk in showers, reception area, breakfast room and outdoor patio area. My bedroom was of average size. I have never seen such a stylish disabled accessible bathroom before. The walk in shower had a non slip floor, there was a shower curtain and 2 grab rails. I was told that a stool can be put into the shower if required.

Toilets

The toilet in my bathroom was raised, I was sitting on tip toe, and there was one grab rail on the right hand side. There was no emergency alarm cord.

Staff

Staff were really helpful and friendly. They spoke good English. Breakfast was waitress service and a tray of the items you requested where laid out on your table. Room was cleaned each day to very high standard.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

This place is lovely, just book it. Hotel is really charming and full of character. The hotel only serve breakfast but there is a kettle in the bedroom. Hotel is opposite a park and seconds away from the harbour, in a quite location. Musee Ernest Cognacq, the local history museum, and the tourist information office is opposite the bus stop and 2 minutes walk away from the hotel.
