Humus is renovated church in Bigton. It has a second hand shop & on Saturday mornings there is baked goods from the Bigton Weekend Bakery. They usually have tables set up at this time with speciality coffees available to buy. Again it is a lovely place to visit if you are in the South mainland of Shetland. Best idea to check on their website for opening times & events that are on. All doorways are wide enough for wheelchairs. It is a very popular place so space can be quite tight but people will always make it easy for you to get around, in my experience.

Can be quite cramped with tables & people!! I managed ok with my wheelchair & a little patience. Other people are generally very helpful & kind though, I find.

There is disabled parking available near the entrance. The car park is quite uneven with chips & grass tufts in places. Once you get inside the gate there is an even path to the front door. I was lucky the day we were there as the weather was nice but the bakery is very popular so there is often long queues.

Accessible Toilets
Accessible toilet was clean with grab rails & enough room to transfer. There was no red emergency cord. Plans are going to take place to improve the toilet with hopefully a changing places toilet being put in. All these things take time, money & available workers to complete the work though. ☹️
