Overall Rating
Good
I went to Il Pescatore for an anniversary dinner with my wife. 18 years have just flown by! I can't fault the staff and I certainly enjoyed my meal, but the place seemed quite cluttered inside and I found a few issues with the accessible toilet.
Disabled Access In and Around
Average
The step-free access is definitely a highlight, though this is a newer building, so access should be a priority as standard. There is a heavy manual door at the entrance, which I would have struggled with when using my wheelchair. As I was parked outside, I opted to use my walking stick instead. There is quite a bit of space inside, but I expect getting around in my chair would have been difficult when the venue is busier. There are no alternative formats in use.
Accessible facilities: Single-level venue, Step-free entrance, Seating at regular intervals, Step-free access to most areas
Parking & Transport
Good
I travelled to this place by personal vehicle
The Bridge Street car park is just across the street, with accessible parking spaces and EV charging bays. There is a bus route nearby and Gilmour Street Railway Station is a short walk away.
Accessible facilities: Electric vehicle charging, Public or on street parking
Accessible Toilets
I've selected average here, as the toilet was clean but there are a few glaring access issues. Firstly, the red cord has not been untied since installation. It hangs from the ceiling, wrapped around the two bangles, leaving it only a few inches from the ceiling. I understand this being overlooked when the restaurant opened, but it's been three years and nobody seems to have considered it a concern. There is a sink with a lever-style tap and contrasting rails on either side, which is a great feature. However, the sink is far too high for wheelchair users to see themselves or for people with colostomy bags to get a good view of their bags when changing. It's one of those things that tells you a disabled person wasn't consulted. The hand dryer, positioned above the bin, is also too high for wheelchair users to reach. The toilet pan has a contrasting seat and contrasting rails on either side. There is space for a left-side transfer, but for some reason, there are two pairs of black Crocs in the space. They're not obstructive, but it's pretty odd. The sliding door doesn't require a RADAR key to unlock. There is a baby change in this toilet.
Facilities: Accessible toilet
Staff
Excellent
The staff were lovely, very attentive and eager to make sure we had a pleasant experience.
Additional Information
If the mirror was repositioned and the red cord hung freely, the accessible toilet would be much better but for now, the latter is a real safety concern.
