Overview

We visited this beach because it had a beach wheelchair listed on the Kerry County Council website at https://www.kerrycoco.ie/environment/beaches/beach-wheelchairs/ . Booking the wheelchair from the number provided was straightforward, as was picking it up from the lifeguard hut at the beach. The beach itself was beautiful and quite wild, and I enjoyed getting out on the sand and relaxing with my book while my partner and son went bodyboarding. After I'd finished with the beach wheelchair, I swapped to my small scooter and visited Sammy's cafe and shop, which had pretty good access and some delicious cakes. Would definitely visit Inch Beach again.

There were some blue badge parking spaces at the entrance to the beach, not far from the lifeguard station where you pick up the beach wheelchair.

Beach wheelchairs always need someone with you who has a bit of muscle, but there wasn't far to go from our parking place to get out on the beach. When I later took my small scooter up to Sammy's cafe and shop, I thought at first I wouldn't be able to get to the cafe because there was at least one big step up, but it turned out there was a way in through the shop. I certainly couldn't get up the step to the open-sided marquee where everyone was eating due to Covid rules, but the staff took pity on me and my family and set up a table for us just inside in a well-ventilated place near an open door.

There was an accessible loo inside Sammy's: clean with OK rails but a bit small for wheelchair manoeuvring.

Everyone was helpful at the lifeguard station and in Sammy's, and the cafe staff particularly went out of their way to set us up with somewhere to eat with level access.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

Mask-wearing was observed well when people were moving around indoors.
