Overview

While this is an excellent venue for children and families, it is dire for anyone with mobility problems. No signage to disabled parking should have been a clue that this place is not suitable for anyone in a wheelchair or mobility scooter. Even the level paths are heavily gravelled and not suitable for any walking aids.

Transport & Parking

0.5

The driver had to abandon the car on a single track road to go and ask where the disabled parking was. When we found it, it was full of staff cars/vans.... although a member of staff did quickly get the vehicles moved out of the way.

Access

0.5

No signage to disabled parking. Steps everywhere. Located on the side of a hill. Majority of paths were made of large gravel. The only "attraction" I visited was the garden, which I had to get to via the road, gravel path and a member of staff carried my scooter over the step into the walled garden. This was the "easy way to access the garden"! Once inside the garden the path was unsuitable and I had to go on the grass, which was sloped and my scooter barely managed it. Despite a fully charged battery it was virtually drained after trying to get to the garden and back to the car. A distinct lack of ramped path access.

Toilets

1

I found 1 disabled toilet. It was not very accessible. It had the bare minimum of grab rails. It was untidy and the floor was wet - having suffered from the park being full of school children.

Staff

3.5

Overall the staff were friendly. We were warned that the paths weren't very accessible to wheelchairs or scooters. A member of staff did carry my scooter over the step into the walled garden.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

This place is totally unsuitable for wheelchair users, unless all you want to do us go in the cafe. If you want to sit outside you have to negotiate a wide grass strip or stairs to get to the outside table area.
