I am a disabled person. I have experience of challenges around: dexterity or coordination and moving around.

Overall Rating

We spent the weekend here on a Caravan and Motorhome Club rally. It was a pleasant enough site but wheelchair access has not been thought about at all. That said, it's close the Cayton village and within very easy reach of Scarborough. If we were to come again though, we'd probably use the main club site, round the corner, which is much more accessible.

Disabled Access In and Around

Most of the site is gravel. It's normal for pitches to be but when the whole site is gravel, it really makes wheelchair access difficult. Fortunately, I always travel with my mountain trike as well as my manual wheelchair. This means I was able to get around the site, walk my dog, etc. However, it quickly became clear that wheelchair access hasn't been thought about at all. Many concreted areas have a small step up from the gravel. Some buildings, including the swimming pool (which I was really looking forward to) were up more steps and were completely inaccessible. The door to reception was too narrow for my trike. Service points aren't accessible either. The grey waste point has a metal cover that you have to lift (not possible for me) and the bins are in a locked area with all the locks too high up. The only thing I could do for myself was go and buy pizza for dinner. The pizza hut was lovely. The only snag, you have to pay in the barn, which wasn't easy to get into. The social events were in the barn too but we didn't bother as all the tables were high up or booths, so there was nowhere for me to sit.

Parking & Transport

I arrived in daylight by motorhome and hubby followed after work in the car. I had no problems finding the site and the entrance was easy enough to get through. There are several car parks at the top of the driveway but I was looking for someone to greet me (usually rally behaviour). Eventually, after driving to the wrong part of the site, a man appeared and took me to my pitch. The pitches are all gravel but that is pretty normal. They are mostly flat and level and there's plenty of room to manoeuvre.

Accessible Toilets

No accessible toilets or showers. The elsan point (where you empty your own toilet) was just about accessible if you can walk a few steps and then stand to empty it. Hubby did ours.

Staff

The staff were pleasant enough. I don't intend returning, so I didn't even bother to raise the poor accessibility of the site. I think, where some effort has been made, it's worth feeding back, but here, they clearly don't want wheelchair users (or don't think we exist).

Additional Information

On the plus side, if you can get along the mud/grass path to the field, it is a lovely long field which we found great for playing frisbee with my assistance dog. It's not entirely secure, so no good if your dog likes to explore but Liggy loved it.
