Overview
We found this little gem whilst visiting Kirkcudbright, had lunch here and later, returned to look around the galleries. It was an enjoyable way to spend an hour or two and apart from the heavy doors to get in, it was pretty good for access. The cafe was perfect for lunch and the food was well presented and tasty.
Transport & Parking
We arrived by motorhome and parked on the street just past the galleries. There were no restrictions on parking and we had no problem finding a space. As a previous reviewer has said though, there is no car park. We arrived at 11:30 on a Saturday morning in June and it wasn't at all busy, so we got parked very easily.
Access
There is a double-sided ramp, so you can get into the building from either direction. The main entrance doors are heavy double doors, which are a bit awkward. For a wheelchair, it needs both doors opening. Staff were eager to help though. There is a lift to all floors. On the top floor, the door opens from the side of the lift, which is a bit weird. It confused my assistance dog a bit. All the galleries are level and flooring is smooth throughout. The cafe was lovely. They moved chairs so that I could my dog and me into a suitable spot.
Toilets
The accessible toilet is on the same floor as the cafe. It is easy to get in and was a good size. It was nice and clean.
Staff
All staff were lovely. They couldn't have been more helpful. They asked before petting my assistance dog, who then promptly rolled over for a tummy rub. Well, she's on holiday too!
