Not wheelchair accessible at all!

I am a disabled person. I have experience of challenges around: accessing toilets, dexterity or coordination and moving around.

I had seen the wheelchair symbol on Google Maps and was looking forward to visiting this little museum. Unfortunately though, it was far from accessible and although we managed to get in, I didn't really enjoy it at all. We only really stayed because it was raining and it seemed better to be in a dry place.
Disabled Access In and Around

There is one large step to get into the main entrance. They do have a ramp but no way to alert the staff to come and put it out. You'd have to go in, down a corridor, though 2 sets of double doors and find the ticket desk to get assistance. Once inside, they have sort of tried to make it accessible with ramps between displays but some of them are steep and one was really steep. I needed help otherwise I'd have tipped over backwards. A couple of displays were down 2 or 3 large wooden steps. The mini cinema was good but was full of seating with no sensible space for a wheelchair so I had to wedge myself in at the front. Fortunately it wasn't at all busy. Many of the displays were very interesting but had text on picture backgrounds such that the contrast was too poor to see, especially because some areas were a little dark as well.

There isn't a car park very close but you can take pot luck on street parking. We got lucky and parked right outside but another car parked close behind us, making it very difficult to load/unload my wheelchair.

Accessible Toilets
Bad
There are no accessible toilets, just normal ladies and gents. I was desperate so used the ladies. I could get my manual wheelchair through both doors to get into the toilets but the cubicles were really narrow. I managed to get to the end one with a window sill that I used as a grab rail.
Staff
Poor
There was just one man on duty. He was okay but did nothing to help. He just made excuses about the poor access and still charged us both full price to get in. Many places in the area allow a carer for free. This is the one place I couldn't have managed without help, yet no free carer ticket.
