Lochboisdale Ferry Terminal is a pretty simple place to find your way around. The staff are lovely, but there are a few aspects of the terminal building I found disappointing, notably the lack of a red cord in the accessible toilet.
Disabled Access In and Around
There is a short ramp, followed by a longer ramp with a handrail to the left leading up to the entrance. The manual door opens outwards onto a ramp, which is never a good design choice. Staff spotted me and helped me in by holding the door. Once beyond the door, you will find the waiting area through a doorway to the right. The accessible toilet is visible as you enter and the ticket desk is to the right. The desk has a lowered section, though the placement of a computer monitor on the other side might prevent some people from seeing staff easily. I did not see any signage for a hearing loop. There are soft seats in the waiting area and plenty of room to move around with most mobility devices, though I think getting into the building as a scooter user could be challenging. The building was quiet during my visit and lighting levels were moderate. Due to the windows, this may change from day to day.

I wheeled my way here, but there are six short-stay bays and a single large accessible parking space. This is little more than a white box with a yellow wheelchair user symbol, but it gives plenty of room. A bus stop can be found around 80 metres away. EV charging is available 160 metres away.

Accessible Toilets

The door to the accessible toilet opens outwards and does not require a RADAR key. The toilet is compact. The toilet pan is on the rear wall and has a soft backrest and rails on either side, though the rails and seat offer poor visual contrast against the pale blue walls. The flush is overhead and on the opposite side of the transfer space, making it doubly awkward to reach. The toilet roll holder is much too high to reach while seated. The sink has a small basin and a single rail to the left. There are two taps for the sink, a lever-style tap for cold water and a movement sensor unit with a long nozzle for hot water. A Dyson dryer is installed on the wall opposite the sink, next to the wall-mounted baby change.

The staff members I spoke to were very friendly, happy to help and happy for me to document the accessibility of the building. One of them even recognised me from my video on how I shut down the Tay Road Bridge!
