London Mithraeum Bloomberg SPACE returns the Roman Temple of Mithras to the location of its discovery in the heart of the City. Situated on the site of Bloomberg’s new European headquarters, this cultural hub showcases the ancient temple, a selection of the remarkable Roman artefacts found during the recent excavation, and a series of contemporary art commissions responding to one of the UK’s most significant archaeological sites.

Step free access to the remains of an impressive subterranean Roman temple

The Temple of Mithras was built by the Romans about 240AD. It was dedicated to the Roman god, Mithras who it is said killed a bull in a cave and the subterranean temple is a representation of the cave. The ruins of the temple were initially discovered in the 1950s and at the time there was a lot of interest, with people queuing for hours to see it. In the 1960s the temple was moved and reconstructed. The London Mithraeum houses the remains of the temple which has been moved again, back to it's original position and restored.

Disabled Access at London Mithraeum Bloomberg SPACE

The museum is wheelchair-accessible throughout, and offers a range of services for visitors with disabilities. General access Step-free access is available to all floors of the building via lifts. Assistance animals are welcome. Folding seats are available to borrow and there is seating available on the lower two floors. Visual access Large print materials and Braille. Magnifying glasses and digital guides with ‘Vision Accessibility’ settings. Torches for low-light areas. Hearing access For the hard of hearing, printed information is available to accompany audio sections of the space.

Our disabled toilet is large enough for a motor wheelchair and has grab rails and an alarm cord.
