I am a disabled person. I have experience of challenges around: accessing toilets, dexterity or coordination and moving around.
I use or have experience of: assistance dog, disabled toilet, wheelchair
Overall Rating
Good
I really enjoyed this experience but you do need to plan ahead to make it work. They only have one wheelchair accessible carriage and there are several trams running, so you need to contact them and arrange travel so that you get the right one. They are happy to plan that around you if you contact them in advance.
Disabled Access In and Around
Good
The tram itself was really good. They have a carriage with a platform lift and this worked really well for me. They were also happy for hubby to board that way with my assistance dog, as she wouldn't have managed the steps. The station building was not at all accessible though, with a step all the way round (no drops) and then a small step to the main entrance. I found this disappointing, as they could easily make this better.
Accessible facilities: Lift to some areas
Parking & Transport
Average
I travelled to this place by personal vehicle
We travelled by motorhome and parked on Ramsey Promenade. It was a 15 minute walk to the station but it was a pretty flat route, so manageable.
Accessible facilities: Public or on street parking
Accessible Toilets
Poor
There is no accessible toilet at Ramsey Station. There are ladies and gents but with steps. The nearest accessible toilet is a good 10 min walk away. In Laxey, where we got off, there is a good accessible toilet. This was clean and easy to get into.
Staff
Excellent
All staff were friendly and helpful. Our first tram was delayed due to a fallen tree on the track, but they kept us updated and sorted it quickly.
