Visit date:
This review is especially helpful for those who have or use the following: Powerchair, PMLD, Learning Disability
Overview
Good levels of accessible parking, Changing Places toilets, accessible doors, some braille signage, and really helpful staff but access to sports facilities is a faff - particularly when the school is closed.
Transport & Parking
Lots of accessible spaces with plenty of room to get around and level access to pavements. Public transport from neighbouring villages is poor and inaccessible.
Access
Signage is relatively clear with good colour contrast and braille options on eye-level signage. Access is gained through lift access from the ground floor (otherwise, there are stairs). I'm not sure about induction loops, BSL or easy-read information. There is a good amount of seating throughout the building for resting. The major issue is that to get to the gym (which doesn't have much accessible equipment) or games hall, a person using a wheelchair/powerchair must access through the main school entrance, which is closed outside of school hours, in order to use the lift. To do this, an ambulant person needs to go down the outside stairs (approximately 25 steps) to enter the sports centre, then navigate the corridors, hold security doors open somehow, go up the internal steps, hold another security door open and let the person in the front door.
Toilets
There are Changing Places facilities within the main school building.
Staff
There is usually a single member of staff managing the sports centre outside of school hours (when we attend) and they are very helpful when they are around & available.
